Galloway Forest Park

Southwest Scotland has long been known as 'the Highlands of the Lowlands'. Nothing contributes more to this than the wild beauty of Britain's largest Forest Park. At three hundred square miles, with over 400 miles of track to be explored, this area is a haven for campers, cyclists and walkers.

The park was designated in 1947 and covers the whole of the Galloway Hills. Stretching as far north as Loch Doon and as far south as Gatehouse it extends to Barr in the West and Loch Ken in the East.

Glentrool is the Jewel in Galloway Forest Parks crown, this secluded spot has been described as the Highlands in miniature. Walk alongside Loch Trool which has been the scene of many battles dating back to Robert the Bruce or climb the Merrick, South Scotland’s highest mountain. There are many short walks around this area for those looking to fill a Sunday afternoon. One thing is certain it is unlikely anyone could tire of visiting this beautiful place.
